What is "All-Natural Black Angus Beef"?

"All-Natural Beef" comes from beef cattle that have received no antibiotics and have been given no added hormones like estrogen. Our cattle are allowed to rotationally graze on our pastures which are free of pesticides and unnatural fertilizers. In contrast, almost all beef that you buy in grocery stores comes from feedlots where the feed is "medicated" with antibiotics and the animals often receive estrogen growth implants.

A major benefit of raising animals on pasture instead of feedlots is that their products are healthier for you and your family. For example, compared with feedlot beef, beef from grass-fed cattle has less total fat, saturated fat, cholesterol and calories. It also has more Vitamin E, Beta-Carotene, Vitamin C, and a number of health-promoting fats, including Omega-3 and Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA).

Our beef cattle are raised to about 450 pounds on lush grass pastures with their mothers. At about eight months old they are weaned and put into grass, clover, and millet fields where they have access to fresh, clean water and graze free range as they are rotated from pasture to pasture. These yearling cattle are processed at about 700 to 950 pounds which is 400 to 500 pounds less than the weight of industrially raised cattle of the same age.

Double Down Ranch beef is raised from the best hand-selected Registered Black Angus breeding stock in the region. Black Angus beef has a higher degree of marbling for flavor and a better texture that typically produces more tender beef. Because our cattle are exclusively grass fed, the beef is generally leaner that the feedlot beef found in a grocery store.
